Billy the Bus

Billy

Billy is a happy and hard working bus. He retired from daily service carrying passengers a few years ago, but as you will discover in his first adventure a new life awaits him! Billy is based on the famous London Routemaster bus. Nearly 3,000 buses like Billy were built and have become an icon of London.

Billy the Bus

Bob the Bus Driver

Bob is Billy's driver, and the two of them have worked together for a long time, sharing many adventures. There really is a Bob the Bus Driver who loves driving old buses just like Billy in his spare time, and the author makes no apologies for using his good friend in this story!

Billy the Bus

Timmy the Taxi

Timmy is a black cab and knows the name of every street in London and the quickest way of getting his passengers to their destination. He and Billy have been friends for as long as they both can remember, passing each other in the streets every day. Over 21,000 black taxis carry passengers around London and they are almost as famous as London buses. Timmy is based on an FX4 model, first introduced in 1958, and the later variants can still be seen today.

Billy the Bus

Arty

Arty is also a London bus and the oldest of all the buses in the series. The others look up to him for guidance and advice. He is based on what is known as an RT bus, the forerunner of the Routemaster. Nearly 7,000 of this type were built for the streets of London where they ran up until 1979. Popular with passengers and enthusiasts, they are often confused with the more widely known Routemaster, but you can be sure Arty will soon correct anyone who dares suggest he is one !

Billy the Bus

Decker

Decker is typical of the modern double decker bus seen in London today. He is grumpy and has no time for the older buses like Billy, feeling much superior to them all. He thinks old buses like Billy should be sent to the scrapyard.

Billy the Bus

Bendy

Bendy has recently taken early retirement from the streets of London where he was too long for the roads and unpopular with passengers. He is a bit lazy and often pretends to feel poorly so he can stay in the bus garage for the day. Somewhat surprisingly, some of his London bendy bus cousins have found a new home and are now working on the lovely island of Malta.

Billy the Bus

Boris

2012 sees the welcome and long anticipated arrival of a modern day Routemaster - the 'New Bus for London' (or 'Borismaster' as it has become unofficially known). And a fine vehicle it is too with it's open platform, sweeping curves and stylistic nod to the original Routemaster's interior. Championed by Boris Johnson Mayor London, it is tempting to create a character in his honour, but for now I've resisted - just!
